8th Annual Anti-Piracy & Content Protection Summit
Increasing Content Security and Fighting Piracy through Education, Innovation and Enforcement
The industries plagued by piracy have experienced seismic activity since we last convened in Los Angeles in late June of 2016, setting the scene for our revamped 2017 summit.
The latest data reporting on the frequency of content theft is distressing the anti-piracy world, as it enumerates that piracy is not only on the rise, but perhaps more disconcerting, consumers are uneducated as to the long-term effects piracy and content theft has on future content creation.
By the Numbers
-Global music piracy causes $12.5 billion of economic losses every year, 71,060 US jobs lost, a loss of $2.7 billion in workers’ earning, and a loss of $422 million in tax revenues, $291 million in personal income tax and $131 million in lost corporate income and production taxes.
-Software piracy caused $239.9 billion in revenue and over 42,000 jobs due to global piracy. This in turn, has affected the entire US economy through jobs, revenue and GDP, which decreased by $69.6 billion.
-The TV and film industry lost $25 billion and over 375,000 jobs last year.
-World wide, 70% of readers use e-books, and 92% of these readers admit to getting their books from the internet for free.
Now, more than ever, copyright owners need to learn how to protect their creative content in order to diminish the effects of piracy – you can’t afford not to. With this awareness, you will be better fortified to battle content theft in 2017 and beyond.
